THE BLUEWATER COOLER: Publisher Darren G. Davis rants and raves about the comic industry: ISSUE 11

Last week I got a phone call from Bill Clinton's office. His assistant called me to get a copy of the "Female Force" comic book featuring his wife. It was really a cool call and I am eager to see any feedback from the Clinton camp. We do have plans for a Bill Clinton comic that will be part of the "Political Power" line of comics (starting in July). We sent him the image that Vinnie did on the former president. If I hear anything back from them, I will post about it.

This was one of the coolest things that has happened in my comic career - to find out a President wants your comic book. I knew that Sam Jackson and Nicholas Cage has read the "10th Muse" comics I did a while back, but this is way cool.

We did try to call the Sarah Palin office to see if she heard about the comics, her press person said they knew about the comics. Nothing more than that yet. Maybe after we send her some comics, she will sign some for us!

We have just announced today that the next subjects are Princess Diana and Condoleezza Rice. Both women have made such a difference in the world. Both women have been suggested by the people that are reading these comics. So yes - we do listen to your comments! I did get a comment from someone today telling me that "it seems a bit like raping a corpse to me, but I guess the appeal of sales trumps  both good taste and a sense of class." I was kinda taken back by this email today. Everyone is entitled to their opinion of these people, but if we were to do Eleanor Roosevelt would he still feel the same way. We want the "Female Force" series to make a difference with readers. If the subjects are dead or alive, they still made accomplishments that warrant them to be subjects of the series. This is not just a series about women who are alive. We plan on choosing subjects who span generations.

A couple other cool bits of news, we just got our comps of the William Shatner Presents preview for FREE COMIC BOOK DAY. It came out really good, so grab your copy on May 2nd! William Shatner will be on the LATE LATE SHOW with CRAIG FERGUSON tonight. He has copies of the comic book.

Wizard Magazine did a two page article that came out this week. It features the William Shatner interview. What is funny, is I got an email from thier ad sales person telling me now that they have run a couple articles on us, that we need to buy an ad. My problem is that if I buy an ad in the next couple issues from now - will they still be in business. I was just told they foldered the ANIME magazine and laid off a couple more people. They had such a good thing going on in the day. Once they changed to be more of a pop cuture magazine, I stopped buying it. To buy an ad in their magazine they have to change a lot of stuff. It is not a very good read and from the feedback I get it is not very respected. Someone told me the other day that they should change the name to "Marvel's Wizard". That made me laugh.

Also I have to do a shout out to the grandparents! Mimi and Bops - thanks for reading the blog to catch up on what we are doing all the time!

Until next time.
