CLINTON, GORE STILL MAKING HEADLINES AND FEATURED IN BLUEWATER BIO COMICS
What do former President Bill Clinton and his former vice president Al Gore have in common? If you pay attention to recent news, it is salacious headlines and gnashing tabloid fodder. However, the Democratic dynamic duo are also recent subjects of Bluewater Productions' popular biography comic book series. Political Power: Bill Clinton and Political Power: Al Gore, currently available at local comic book shops and various online venues, provide a balanced look at the two influential American politician's careers. According to Bluewater president Darren G. Davis, "Clinton and Gore are very similar in terms of their approach to government and their penchant for policy analysis. However their backgrounds, rise to power and their personal demeanors couldn't be more different." "Clinton's vivacious approach and his ability to communicate on a very intimate level gave him the aura of 'feeling your pain' and a genuine interest in solving issues. Gore didn't have Clinton's gift, but he brought other intangibles to the table that made him a considerable force in national politics." Although thousands of articles and books have been written on the subject, writers Scott Davis (Gore) and Robert Schnakenberg (Clinton) try to dissect why each man is the way he is. "What is fascinating about Al Gore is he is a contrast of opposites," noted Scott Davis, "He's a cagey politician, but given to sophomoric exaggerations. He is the embodiment of Big Government and the idealistic conscience of the country." Bluewater emphasizes that each of the titles strive to tell an even-handed story; that they are not "puff pieces or hatchet jobs" written from a skewed point of view. "Clinton and Gore represent two of the most influential figures in recent history," said Bluewater president Darren Davis. "Ten years removed from office, they still stir up very strong and polarizing feelings from both sides of the political spectrum, but you cannot deny their lasting impact on the country." The Clinton book does cover the former president's greatest triumphs as well as his public disgrace stemming from the Lewinsky affair. The recent sexual harassment allegations accusations levied against Gore are not included in the already-published issue as they are too new. However, Bluewater may add a brief epilogue for future printings (including any planned compilation graphic novels) if the charges prove to be founded.
Both issues of political power are standard 32-page issues. David McNeil illustrated the Clinton book while Giordanelli Corbellini handled the pens in the Gore issue. Bluewater's Political Power line has attracted mainstream publicity and strong sales. The company's comics featuring Ronald Reagan, Barack Obama, and Rush Limbaugh have all generated strong sales in a declining comic book market. The goal of these biography comics is simple: Tell moving stories of politically powerful individuals in an even-handed and balanced way. The comic book series, launched earlier this year, has drawn considerable media attention, including features on CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, "The View" and "Live with Regis and Kelly." It has also been featured in such periodicals as People Magazine, OK! Magazine Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, USA Today and thousands of blogs and other media outlets. The 32-page issue retails for $3.99 and are available in comic book shops and several online venues. To find a local comic book store near you go to www.comicshoplocator.com.
